Pain Tracker

Privacy policy

This policy covers the website pain-tracker.com and the Pain Tracker app for iPhone and iPad.

In short: without an account, your entries stay on your device. If you sign in, they are also stored in your account, so that your devices stay in sync. There is no advertising and no tracking, and your data is not sold.

Who is responsible

Responsible for Pain Tracker and for the data described here:

Please write to this address with any question about your data.

Your entries

An entry is a pain level from 0 to 10, an optional note, and its date, time and time zone. Entries say something about your health, so they are especially sensitive data.

Without an account, your entries are stored only on your device: in the browser on the website, in the app on iPhone and iPad. They are not sent to us.

If you sign in, your entries are also stored in your account, as a backup and so that they are the same on all your devices. The access rules let only your account read them. Our administration pages show how many entries an account has, never their levels or notes.

Your account

Signing in is optional and works with Google or Apple. From them we receive your name, your email address and, with Google, the address of your profile picture. We store these with your account, together with the sign-in method and the time of your last sign-in. With Apple you can choose to hide your email address.

To keep you signed in, a cookie is set for 14 days. It is used for nothing else.

Reminders

In the app for iPhone and iPad, reminders are scheduled on the device itself. Nothing about them is sent or stored anywhere else.

On the website, reminders are push notifications. If you turn them on, we store your browser’s push address, your reminder times, your time zone and your language, so that the reminders can be sent. If you are not signed in, they are stored under an anonymous account. Turning reminders off deletes them, and anonymous accounts that are no longer used are deleted after 30 days.

Purchases in the app

The app for iPhone and iPad is free for 14 days. After that, adding entries needs the full version, a one-time purchase. Apple handles both the free days and the purchase. The app only learns from the App Store whether your Apple Account has them. We receive no payment details and store nothing about your purchase.

Visits to the website and server logs

We count how often the website is opened: views, visitors, pages, languages, kinds of device and the sites people come from, as totals per day. No cookies are used for this. To count a visitor only once a day, the server works out a code from the IP address, the browser and a random value that changes every day. The code is kept in memory for that day only and is never stored.

When the website takes over entries from its previous version, it reports numbers only, such as how many entries there were and whether it worked. Nothing in them identifies you.

Like every web server, ours records requests in log files: the IP address, the time and the address requested. They are used to keep the service running and secure.

Settings on your device

Your choices, such as the language, light or dark, the pain colours, the time format and your reminder times, are kept on your device. On the website the language is kept in a cookie, so that the server can answer in it.

Who receives your data

We use these providers to run Pain Tracker:

Where data reaches a country without equivalent data protection, it is covered by the guarantees these providers give, such as standard contractual clauses. We pass your data on to no one else and do not use it for advertising.

Why we process your data

We process your data to provide Pain Tracker to you: to save and sync your entries, to send the reminders you asked for and to answer your messages.

Your entries are health data. We store them in your account only because you chose to sign in, and you can take that back at any time by deleting your account. Counting visits and keeping server logs serve our interest in a service that works and is secure.

How long data is kept

Your control and your rights

In Pain Tracker you can at any time export your entries (PDF, CSV or a backup file), delete entries, and delete your account with everything stored in it, at the end of Settings.

You also have the right to ask what we store about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to receive a copy. Write to the address above. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to a data protection authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the authority of your country.
